MIRROR- status of muslim women

It’s   not  the  religion   it’s   stereotype  approach   which  clamp women within  the  four  walls .
Islam   promogulate   equality   between   men  and   women   . Islam gives enough  freedom   and  is  liberal enough to permit  women  to seek  education ,  indulge in   business  and   participate  equally  to  earn  and   get   better   livelihood .
Today , position  of muslim women  is  totally  distorted   beyond  just  social  integration  due  to culture  of veils   but   also  their  socio-economic   status   is  very  declined  .
India   being  largest  democracy  with  largest  minority  who  get  significant  attention  during election campaign   and  their  welfare   being  quoted  just  in  manifesto. The  primary  issue  declining muslims position  in  society   are  low  income , lower  work  rate, less education  and hence they are backward  in society.
Quranic  verses  treated  women  equally  to   men   and   they   have  right   like  Maher , consent before marriage ,  Khula (Divorce) ,  No dowry system  ,  widow  remarriage  .  NO  religion is wrong, but wrong is  its  interpretation   and   the   lawmakers   chained  them  in  the  name  of  religion.
Madarsa’s    are  playing role  to impart  religious  education  and some  of  them  offer  training  in  computers , hindi , English  and  other  subject  but  that is  not  enough  to get a suitable  livelihood . Education  is  imparted  just due  because  they  can    guide  next  generation  to  a  right  path.
Muslim  women  are more likely to  be  illiterate  according  to  Muslim  Women  Survey  covering 10,000 muslim  women  59 %  had  never  attended    school  and  less than  10%  had  completed  school.
The  backwardness  and  low  socio-economic  status   create further  ceilings  for  girls  education. Just 40.6%  muslims  girls  have  enrolled to  school  and  3.5%  girls get  higher  education.
The  other  curse  is  low  age  marriage  factor  “ At  the   national  level  marriage  of  muslim  girl  is very low  at  15.6  years   and  in  the  rural  north it  falls  to  an  appalling  13.9  years ”  quotes  ‘Frontline’.  This  in turn  leads  to  early  puberty  and  causes   several  health  issues.
Low  age   marriage  and  lack   of  education  decrease  muslim  women  participation  at  work . The  other  causes  behind  are  social  evils  like  veil , patriarchal  system , low  mobility , lack of opportunities , low  awareness ,  no  participation  in  decision  making.
Basically  they  are  not  even  free  to  make  decision  of  their  own  life .  75%  of  women  were  reported  who  need  their  husband  permission . Less  than 10%  women  were  there  who  take  their own  minor   or  major  decision  and  30%  reported  to  jointly  take  decision  after  consulting  their  husband.
Muslim  women access to fall in  lowest  paid  and  most  exploited  categories  labor  significantly   due to  low  education  and  inability  to delegate  domestic   responsibilities . According  to  Muslim  Women  Survey  14%  women  participate  in work .
Muslim  women had  lost  their  identity  not  only  in society  but  somewhere also disappeared  legally  . They  must  get  equal  status  in  all  sectors .  People  need  to  think, concern ,  address , aware , and  work  towards  position   of  women  in  muslim  society  .  92%  of  muslim  women  reported in favour  to ban polygamy. Situation  are  getting better  and  just  need  sharpen up. The  veil  on the minds  must  be  removed . Time to concern  and  rethink.
